It’s been a while since we have posted an episode of Q&A@F&B and at least some of you may be wondering “where the hell is the podcast?” Well, the podcast is still alive and well, in theory. We love doing the show; I love talking to people who are passionate about what they do, whether or not what they do involves picking up a camera. One of the things we noticed as we were doing the first 15 episodes is that in talking primarily to photographers, we often hear very similar stories, in terms of inspiration, workflow, etc. There have been standouts, to be sure, but many of the guests’ experiences have been similar enough that we wanted to take a look at how to change it up a bit. What if we go beyond photography into art, literature, film or dance? We started really looking at some of our favorite podcasts, such as This American Life, The Moth and our current favorite, Radiolab, to see what, if anything, they have in common. While they all have fantastic production, it’s the stories, the narrative of each episode that is so compelling. The strength of these shows is directly attributable to the diversity of the guests and the “interestingness”, if you will, of the narratives. With that in mind, we have decided to expand the scope of the podcast to focus on sharing great stories that may or may not be photo-centric. Fortunately, the next episode of the podcast has both. David Marks is a fantastic photographer in New Mexico, whose amazing story of catharsis and healing has informed a very powerful ongoing body of work and we can’t wait to share both his work and his story with you. Stay tuned.
