Twice a year, the stars (well, one star anyway) align in New York City to bathe residents of Gotham in absolutely amazing golden light. Manhattanhenge, as dubbed by physicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, occurs before and after the summer solstice, when the Sun aligns with the east-west grid of the city. The resulting light provides photographers with opportunities to capture spectacular sunsets, framed by the canyons of skyscrapers that make up the Manhattan skyline. If you are in or around New York and would like to experience Manhattanhenge for yourself, the next occurrence will be on July 11-12 at approximately 8:24pm.
