We love this photo essay, or rather this, “super serious project about dogs and physics,” as photographer Theron Humphrey puts it. However you describe it, it is utterly charming. The project centers around Maddie, Humphrey’s coonhound, with whom he has been traveling around the country since last year. At various stops along the way (their goal is to visit all 50 states), Humphrey photographs Maddie perched, often precariously, on things, defying (or at least challenging) the laws of physics. There’s Maddie on a sign, on a gas pump, on a fire hydrant, on a… well, you get the idea. The result is a quirky view of America that somehow manages to dovetail perfectly with one of Humphrey’s awesome other project, This Wild Idea, in which he aims to collect and share the stories of everyday people, collecting one-a-day as he traverses across the States. If you find yourself loving this project like we do, Humphrey has prints available for purchase to help support the project.
