Camille Seaman - The Big Cloud

The Big Cloud: Camille Seaman

Reading Time: 1 minutes

Although she is most well-known for her dramatic images of icebergs, Camille Seaman has recently switched directions in her photography. Inspired by her 8-year-old daughter, who, after watching a program on storm chasers told her,“Mom, you should do that.” That’s all it took. Seaman immediately started investigating what it meant to be a storm chaser. She has now been following these magnificent and violent storms since 2008, trying to capture the power and beauty that they bring with them. “Clouds are a beautiful metaphor. They are so ethereal; they cannot be touched but you can see them,” Seaman says. “You can watch them as they form from ‘nothing’ and grow and rage and boom and sparkle. They rain or snow or blow and nourish and destroy; they create and build; they damage and flood. They move resources from one place to another.” Jeffery has been bugging me to go storm chasing with him for years, but I just don’t think I could get that close, regardless of how gorgeous the photos may be.
