“Creativity is not the finding of a thing, but the making something out of it after it is found.”  – James Russell Lowell

Anna Gillespie - Gathering Time Anna Gillespie - To the Limit

Something about Anna Gillespie’s work just speaks to me, especially the image on the right, which she says is part of her “blown” work. It feels like a symbol of strength. When all around you is blowing, it is all you can do to hold on and not fall over. Just beautiful.  [via My Modern Met]

The Cappadocian Region in the Anatolian Region of Turkey is known for its otherworldly geography which makes it a very popular place for hot air balloons.  Feel Desain posted these wonderful images of the balloons flying over the incredible rock formations, canyons, lava plains, and distinct colors of this unique region.

Kodak Colorama

These Kodak Colorama photographs were printed at an amazing 60 feet by 20 feet and were seen from 1950-1990 at New York’s Grand Central Station’s Main Concourse. They were used to show how important it is to use photography to document family life. They will be on display again at the New York Transit Museum until November 1st. [via PDN]

Using unusual items like tea brandy, vodka, whiskey, graphite and calligraphy ink, Carne Griffiths‘ work almost look like watercolors, so delicate and expressive.  [via This is Colossal]

If you shoot video with your DSLR, and are looking for a way to punch up the quality of your lighting, the guys from Weapons of Mass Production have you covered. Using simple fluorescent bulbs and work lights available from your local DIY store (Home Depot, Lowe’s, etc) they show how to get a more cinematic feel on the cheap. Plus, the guys are hysterical, so you may want to subscribe to their YouTube Channel.

If you have something interesting you think we should feature on an upcoming Five for Friday, let us know.
