Father And Son Send iPhone Into Space
As I read this story and watched the video, for a few moments, I was eight years old again, marveling at the mystery of space and notion of traveling beyond our world. A father and son from Brooklyn, New York sent an iPhone into the stratosphere to record a video of the earth’s curvature. They built their “space craft” from an insulated take out box filled with foam and hand warmers to protect the iPhone on a journey that would take it through 100+ mile per hour winds at temperatures 60 degrees below zero, 19 miles above the surface of the Earth. The craft returned safely approximately 30 miles from where it lifted off, found via the iPhone’s GPS. The resulting video is six minutes of wide-eyed wonder. Enjoy.
