American Photographic Artists Award Winners

Reading Time: 2 minutes

I love looking at the winners of photography competitions – trying to get into the minds of the judges; figuring out how they chose one photograph over another, knowing that they probably had hundreds, if not thousands of images to choose from. It is not a job I would like to have, especially with all of the talent that is out there. American Photographic Artists recently announced the winners of their 2012 Photo Competition and each image is amazing. Although based in the US, the competition garners entries from across the world. This year, there were over 1,600 submissions from over 15 countries. According to the APA, the winners are recognized for “outstanding work that reflects personal vision and exemplifies technical excellence.” Wildlife photographer Amos Nachoum won Best of Show for his shot (above) of a penguin about to meet his doom in the form of a very large, menacing seal. I can’t even imagine being in a position to take that photograph, let alone having the nerve to shoot right at that particular moment. Though each of the winning shots is fantastic, my favorite is the photo by Art Streiber of the cast of The Princess Bride. Make sure you click on it to see all of the wonderful details.
